Hal Linden (born Harold Lipshitz on March 20, 1931) is an American stage and screen actor, television director and musician.

He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Captain Barney Miller in the sitcom Barney Miller (1975-1982), a role that earned him multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
